The sea, written by hand
The story of the collection
There is tableware made by machines, and there is tableware made by hands. Handpainted Green is the second kind. It is the only MÜGE collection born not from a mould and a matte glaze, but from the movement of a brush. And that is exactly why it resembles nothing else.
The inspiration came from the old pottery workshops of the south. The ones where the kiln is fired at dawn, where brushes of every thickness hang on the walls, and where the master never repeats a piece twice. We pictured a small village by the water: walls bleached by the sun, ceramics set out to dry in the courtyard, cream-coloured clay and one shared bucket of turquoise glaze for everyone. The master takes a brush and guides it in circles - ring after ring, stroke after stroke. Here the layer is denser; there the glaze almost parts, and the warm cream body breathes through it. That is not a flaw. That is the signature of a hand.
What it brings to mind. A summer you never want to end. Lunch on a terrace, where the table is laid slowly and with care. A home where tableware is passed on, not thrown away after a season. The aesthetics of imperfection that the Japanese call wabi-sabi, and the Mediterranean simply calls life: beautiful not despite the traces of the hand, but because of them.
